Having re-read the last post and also thought about Catherine’s comment I have recast two of the texts.
The first concerns racially motivated murders. The text seems to propose that despite memorials such as Altab Ali Park racially motivated murders are still all too commonplace…
The second text relates to the National Front and the concerns that it could be gaining strength because of Islamophobia. This could accompany the photograph of the corner of Brick Lane and Bethnal Green Road….the link between the two does exist but is not explicit….this might be too obscure…

It’s odd but reading these made me think of Tom Hunter and how he set out to show a different side of Hackney. I began to think about Monica Ali’s novel “Brick Lane” and other novels about this area of London. Do you think there is a place for fiction as well?

A good idea Catherine….I have picked up on this idea with the Chinatown text which talks about the mythology of Chinatown in the Victorian novel….I might think about substituting some text from a novel for this. I will also have a read of Monica Ali’s novel….if I get the time….but yes this could be very useful, especially where it would enable me to refer to the fictions surrounding the East End…
