I have been working on the selection and sequencing of my photographs for the Museum portraits. To assist in this process I have pulled my current batch of selects together into a short video slide show. I still have some work to do but this is now getting quite close to my final view. I plan to complete my critical review of the genre ‘Portraits in Series’ before absolutely finalising my selections.
Essentially I have tried to focus on shots which capture the engagement of the subject with the museum exhibit. In some cases the images are not absolutely sharp as I was responding to a moment….I don’t think this matters as the style is fairly loose reportage and the grainy black and white is in itself soft. I plan to sit on this presentation for a while and reflect on it…I am sure it can be improved but I think that my judgement on this will benefit from a little pause.

These are great Keith…I particularly like those that are juxtaposed with museum pieces, very witty and well spotted. Very impressed!!

Thanks Penny….I have been debating in my mind whether to make more of the ones with exhibits….headshots alone don’t have the context but some of them do show the engagement and emotion…

I think you’ve succeeded very well Keith – the slideshow gives a vivid impression of the absorption of your subjects. I think the occasional softness of the image is good as, for me, it captures the fleetingness of the moments of the gaze – yours and theirs.

Phew, these are excellent. You are invisible in these images both in physical form and in the responses of your subjects to the potential interruption. Great composition balance, mirrored repetitive form and truly thought-FULL, really great piece of work.

Very powerful set of images Keith, I love that they are all so totally absorbed in their own world that they are apparently completley oblivious to you and your camera.

Thanks Janet…it seems to be the case when people have something really interesting to engage with….

Keith, a fascinating set of images and fabulous capture. You have really captured some people showing deep emotion as they view the pieces. Awesome!

Thanks Selina…glad you like them…my aim has been to capture how people respond to the exhibits.
