I have been out in the field working on images for After Marville… I have been focusing on locations where new developments have recently been completed or where work is in progress or where planning applications have been made for new developments (and often the demolition of pre-existing properties.
I have put the work into a video as this is a good form in which to review the images. The video is ordered as one would see the locations walking from Old Street to Bishopsgate… All the images are in colour and in square format…this is a holding position. I plan to consider the form of presentation at a later stage.

I like the idea of a walk and the text is very strong, I’m wondering if the series is partly unbalanced – with and without text? Just thoughts.

Interesting. I guess you are referring to the text on signage in the images themselves. In fact I did not select the locations on the basis of the texts. Many are development sites which almost by default have large amounts of signage. The non-development sites which are locations under threat of development or completed developments typically do not have other than road signs. There is some signage like the comment about Shoreditch and ditches that are exceptions. It will be interesting to see if the texts could be used more deliberately throughout.

The flow of images is just right. I wasn’t caught so much by the signage et but by the music and its words. The rhythm and mood fit but the words don’t because the song is about ‘feeling at home”.
I look forward to discussing more tomorrow.
