Reflective Account

Posted on May 11, 2013

I have now finalised my Reflective Account for my Advanced Photography assessment submission. It is significantly changed from the outline I posted here. After discussion with my tutor, I decided to focus on my learning development from assignment to assignment. This will enable the reviewer to better understand my progression through the course. I have also cross referenced this learning blog throughout the document. In particular I have referred to my posts on specific photographers and on my technical development. There is a great temptation to keep re-reading the document and tweaking it a bit…this is a temptation that I should now try to avoid!!  The document can be accessed via the pdf link below:

OCA ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY REFLECTIVE ACCOUNT – KEITH GREENOUGH

I was uncertain whether to get the document bound. The OCA assessment guidelines for level 3 suggest that for level 3 written work is bound. After consultation with Jesse, my tutor I decided that this was not necessary given that it is a relatively thin document. The final version was printed onto Epson Photo Quality Inkjet Paper, which reproduces the photographs very well. It is presented in a four hole ring binder, along with an overview of the material I am presenting for assessment and a guide to my blog.

Congratulations on completing this. Not sure if it’s just me, but I can’t seem to get the link to work.

Mmm not sure about why it doesn’t work for you. I have tested it several times on my machine and all is well. It is a very big file and takes a white to download…lot of pictures within the text…

The link worked for me Keith. You’re near the end of a long, hard road and I’ve admired the way you’ve retained your enthusiasm and allowed the work to evolve so creatively. The Reflective Account is most interesting reading which puts all your hard work and learning into context. You’re quite a role model for me.

Thanks for the flattery Catherine. I have really enjoyed my work on this course….guess it shows through in the enthusiasm. Also learned that you’ve got to persist to get through.

Very generous to make this available and I’m sure it will be a valuable resource for me and many other students as they go about their studies.

I hope it does help others….but I am sure everyone will have their own way of doing things…

It is a fascinating read Keith. The thoroughness and depth of thought does you great credit. I had forgotten you have not yet done YOP. I’m glad we’re not losing you yet and keen to see what you do next.

I do think this will be helpful to others. We all learn from each other and to see a really well-presented critical review is helpful. We may each do things our own way but seeing others’ work helps generate ideas and gives a sense of standards and what might be achieved. Thank you for sharing. I think the problem was that I initially tried to look on my phone, which just couldn’t cope with the file.

Glad you’ve now been able to access it. You know its a lonely business distance learning. On a full time degree programme I am sure the institution would have files of past dissertations and such like for students to look at. This might be something which the OCA should think about.

Downloaded it sitting in Whitechapel Gallery cafe, read it on the way home! Have followed your blog with interest since they posted it way back on ‘We Are OCA’; and it’s been fascinating and informative following your progress. Seeing your thoughts all together; and the journey as one, has been really useful. You seem to have got a lot out of this particular module; and I have too! Thank you for sharing—it has been inspirational.
